Rules and Regulations
  • It is the responsibility of each member of staff in charge to organise games, If for whatever reason your team can not play a game you can either reschedule the fixture (if it is convenient for the other team) or concede the points. If you cancel a game and it can not be rescheduled then points are conceded.
  • Once a game is played the results need to be in to Les Thomson by the Friday and sent by the HOME team on the fixture sheet otherwise points will be awarded to the away team.
  • I would recommend that games be played in quarters as this will maximise the game time for students and allow changes to be made if you have a lot of players- recommended times:
               -   Under 12- 5 min quarters.
               -   Under 14- 6 min quarters
               -   Under 16- 8 min quarters
  • Again this is a guide- feel free to discuss between umpires what best suits the time you have and the needs of each team.
  • When umpiring please be aware that particularly for the younger students encouraging the flow of the game is helpful, warnings can be given to help students progress, however blatant mistakes should be pulled with a clear call from the umpire.
  • Please work together when umpiring particularly if a member of staff lacks confidence.

Students playing up
As agreed at the HOD meeting this year:
If a player plays up more than twice then they must stay playing for the team above. This is to prevent the same students playing in more than one team throughout a season and students missing opportunities due to excelling younger players.

If you have players that are playing for club, county, satellite etc they may not get the competition they need playing at their current age group, you may therefore choose to play them in the team above. However, they can not go back down.

This obviously requires some honesty from teacher/coaches when selecting teams as it would be difficult to monitor.  The consequence of not following the above rule is a point deduction.

What to do if your struggling to get a team together?
If you are struggling to get a team together for whatever reason and therefore need to mix a team from different age groups then this can be done, however you must inform the other team and your points will be conceded (this means that students still get a game and will not miss out even though they can not get the points).

Any issues…….
Any issues throughout a match should ideally be dealt with on the day (we are all here for the same reason and should be able to challenge any issues).

If for whatever reason this does not happen please get in touch with myself ASAP and I will endeavour to help. Staff should be forthcoming with any issues, ie players playing up etc and should highlight it at the beginning of the match to avoid any confusion.

Thanks
Happy netballing
